한인생활상담소(소장 김주미)가 오는 3월 28일(토)과 4월 4일(토), 2~3세 자녀를 둔 부모를 대상으로 ‘Play with Me’ 워크샵을 개최한다. 이중언어로 진행되는 이번 프로그램은 킹 카운티 ‘Best Starts for KIDS’ 그랜트의 지원을 받아 시행된다.

이번 워크샵은 미국의 공신력 있는 발달 단계 확인 도구인 ASQ(Age and Stage Questionnaires)를 활용해 자녀의 발달 상태를 직접 점검하는 것을 출발점으로 삼는다. 참가자들은 발달 상태에 따른 조기개입의 중요성을 배우고, 이후 개인 컨설팅 연계도 받을 수 있다. 워크샵은 사고력, 언어 발달, 문제 해결 능력, 소근육 발달 등 영유아 발달의 핵심 영역을 놀이를 통해 자연스럽게 지원하는 방법을 중심으로 구성된다. 가상놀이(pretend play)를 통한 사고력 자극, 두 단계 지시 이해를 포함한 언어 발달 지원, 손 조작 능력을 키우는 소근육 활동 등 가정에서 곧바로 활용할 수 있는 실질적인 방법을 익히는 시간이 될 것이다.

이번 워크샵은 풍부한 Infant Mental Health Therapist 경력을 보유한 한인생활상담소의 Shelly Choi 아동발달전문가(Early Childhood Development Specialist)가 준비하고 강의를 맡는다. 또래 자녀를 키우는 부모들이 한자리에 모여 육아 정보와 경험을 나누고 서로 배울 수 있는 공동체적 시간도 마련된다. 주최 측은 워크샵을 통해 조기개입이 필요한 것으로 확인된 자녀의 경우 이후 개인 컨설팅으로 연결할 수 있다고 밝혔다.

워크샵은 3월 28일과 4월 4일 두 차례, 매회 오후 1시부터 3시까지 턱퀼라에 위치한 한인생활상담소 남부지소(광역 시애틀 한인회관 건물 내, 14001 57th Avenue South, Tukwila, WA 98168)에서 대면으로 진행된다.

Korean Community Service Center to Host ‘Play with Me’ Parent Workshop

The Korean Community Service Center (Director: Jumi Kim) will host a bilingual ‘Play with Me’ Parent Workshop for families with 2–3-year-old children on Saturday, March 28 and Saturday, April 4. The program is funded by King County’s Best Starts for KIDS grant.

The two-part workshop is designed to help parents understand how young children learn through play. Using the ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaires), a trusted developmental screening tool, parents will be able to assess their child’s developmental progress and learn about the importance of early intervention. The workshop will also cover practical, everyday play strategies to support toddlers’ cognitive development, language growth, problem-solving skills, and fine motor abilities — including pretend play, two-step direction following, and hands-on activities parents can use at home.

The workshop will be led by Shelly Choi, Early Childhood Development Specialist at the Korean Community Service Center, who brings extensive experience as an Infant Mental Health Therapist. Following developmental screening, families whose children may benefit from additional support will be connected to individual consultation services.

Both sessions will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Center’s South Office, located inside the Greater Seattle Korean Association building (14001 57th Avenue South, Tukwila, WA 98168).
